8 December 2009 - GUINNESS STOREHOUSE TAKES THE WEATHER TO NEW HEIGHTS!

Today, Tuesday 8th December, GUINNESS STOREHOUSE®, Ireland's number one visitor attraction, launched its 360 degree, on-line, live stream weather cam from the highest viewpoint of Dublin City, the elevated landmark - The Gravity Bar.

The GUINNESS STOREHOUSE weather cam enables people from all over the world to enjoy a bird's eye view of Dublin city in real time. The weather cam transports viewers to the highest viewpoint in Dublin City Centre, where they can experience the panoramic views from the Gravity Bar, as though they were overlooking the city for themselves.

Speaking about the weather cam, Valentina Doorly, GUINNESS STOREHOUSE Marketing and Sales Manager, said, “The GUINNESS STOREHOUSE is known all around the world for the panoramic views available from the Gravity Bar. With the introduction of this new, innovative technology we are delighted to be able to bring this view to everyone in Ireland and throughout the world.”

As well as the panoramic views, this new weather cam also provides a real time weather report. By installing weather measurement instruments onto the roof of the Gravity Bar, the weather cam provides readings on current weather conditions, temperature and wind speed.

The webcam equipment has a number of unique features ensuring accuracy and clarity such as an automated wiper that detects levels of rainfall and a lightweight camera that rotates at 360 degrees, covering the entire city of Dublin.

Installation of the camera equipment had to be abandoned on several occasions due to high gales and storms – the roof of Gravity Bar is not a place you want to be at this time! In addition, testing took place during one of Ireland's rainiest periods in decades. As a result the wiper settings on the camera had to be completely changed to cope with the deluge.

For those wishing to get even closer to the city and its treasured landmarks, GUINNESS STOREHOUSE has also introduced an “Interactive Dublin City Tour” on their website. The virtual tour features 24 city landmarks, viewable from the webcam including Christchurch Cathedral, Aviva Stadium, the Wellington Monument, Croke Park and the Spire. The City Tour also shows views of the St. James's Gate Brewery, Wicklow Mountains, the Sugar Loaf Mountain and Howth Head.

Click here and check out the panoramic views, live weather cam and the Interactive Dublin City Tour.

To experience these panoramic views first hand, visit GUINNESS STOREHOUSE, which is open 7 days a week from 9.30am – 5pm (last admission is at 5pm). Complimentary car parking is available at the visitor car park on Crane Street.
