The St. James’s Gate Brewery did not bottle its own product until the 1960s. Until then, Guinness was sold in wooden casks to those in the ‘trade’. The Trade Ledgers contain a meticulous record of Guinness sales from the 1860s through to the 1960s, providing unprecedented insight into merchants, publicans, wholesalers, and bottling firms both in Ireland and abroad.
